An idyllic country inn surrounded by sweeping fields in all directions, we are one of Hampshire’s best kept secrets — and once you visit you will want to keep it that way.
Both the literary-themed country chic bedrooms and quirky-cosy bar and restaurant are brimming with character — you’ll find a menagerie of curious objects on every surface, and walls adorned with paintings, portraits and inspirational quotes.
Our menu champions traditional and seasonal British fare, and there’s a spacious garden terrace for al fresco wining and dining.
We are well placed for exploring the magnificent South Downs National Park and historic sites such as the home of 18th century writer Jane Austen and the medieval city of Winchester.

Went in for a lovely dinner on Sunday and was served by Sophie P. She was very patient and well mannered and helped us with anything we needed. Food was excellent and the place was lovely. Will be coming back.
Lovely lunch on 26 Jan, we were very well looked after by Katie. Food was great, mains portions, especially the mussels could have been a bit larger - maybe offer a choice of 2 sizes.
We stayed in a wonderful room overlooking fields with a king sized bed. It has real character much like the rest of this pub/country restaurant with rooms. Perfect. As for the supper and breakfast, outstanding. Julka in particular and Albert looked after our every need, were a delight to chat with and provided excellent service. All in all, we highly recommend The Anchor.
We popped into the Anchor Inn whilst on a circular walk from Bentley. It was a well-earned rest stop during our ramble. We hadn't booked to eat, although when we asked if we could, the staff were very accommodating, notifying us of what on their menu they were unable to serve due to being sold out. We chose the fish and chips and beef shin pie with vegetables. Both meals were good portions, beautifully cooked, and hot, the service was very pleasant, relaxed and friendly. The Inn has a warm country pub feel where walkers, dogs, and children were happily enjoying the atmosphere. We would be more than happy to return.
We only came for Sunday lunch so much of this questionnaire is irrelevant to our experience. What I can say is that we had a very pleasant meal in comfortable and convivial surroundings. The food was delicious and the service efficient and friendly. The Anchor is a traditional country pub with a lovely dining room.
