It's finally back as The Empress. The iconic bar has been restored to it's former glory with a modern touch.
The Empress was renowned for decades as the meeting, passing and finishing point of a true Geordie night out.
We have given it a new look and The Empress is firmly back in the hearts of thousands of visitors every week.
Think Middle-England Vs Über Cool with homely booths, plasma screen tables, and an awesome sound system.

i come to empress every saturday and i have usually never had a problem with the service and most of the staff are really nice however i was in there last saturday and i was served by a “new” worker who clearly had no idea what she was doing as i am a student i usually get 2 shots and 2 doubles for 10 pound but i was shockingly charged 27 pound for this, i was really unhappy and the women just looked at me as if i was stupid. my one star is for the kind man who gave me my money back after i told him about the situation.
Just ignore this one they won’t allow if you’re not a blonde🤐
Eeesh. Waited 15 years to go in here and it doesn't seem to have an identity? Lol weird decor, nothing really flowed. Oh. Bar staff let me order cocktails and then not a second later the lights went up for us to exit! 🤦😳 We were allowed to finish but the 'party' had obviously ended. Disappointed!
This bar is a lovely place to go on a night out wether that is for a few cocktails or something heavier. I have been coming to empress since my first year of uni . All the staff are delightful and there is always a deal you can take advantage of.
It's not really my type of music but we came here a few weeks back and had a good time, room for people to dance, but also places you can sit and have a drink and a chat. The real plus to my visit though was the staff, Andrea (I think she was called Andrea!) was on the door and very professional and incredibly kind. We need more people like her working in town! It was very refreshing to see someone who genuinely cares about the safety of her customers.
