Popped in here for a quick meal. It was cold inside apart from a lovely roaring fire. Unfortunately we couldn't get anywhere near the fire as two people were sprawled over the chair and the sofa, respectively. We asked if we could sit anywhere nearer the fire to eat but were ignored, despite there being a table next to the fire in the dining room. The huge dining area was completely empty. The bar lady wasn't very welcoming or helpful. Won't be going back.
Lots of potential. Speed of food wasn’t bad and the roast itself was ok, but at £19 you expect a bit more. If you have to pay extra for cauliflower cheese it better be cheesy! No veg with the child’s food. The children’s ice cream scoops were criminal and we mentioned this twice to different staff. the lad was licking the bowl as it was so miserly but no offer of another scoop or an apology! As they were so casual about it we didn’t leave a tip and we always tip! Like i said, it’s a nice country pub and has potential but just a few improvements and a bit of staff training needed. Will come back for a drink again for sure. Has to ask for the bill twice.
Really nice location with an ideal distance from the moors but yet easy to get to. Plenty of seating and not an eyebrow lifted when dining in hiking boots. Really cosy restaurant with a nice mellow atmosphere. In regard to the meals, I would suggests you avoid wasting your money on the sausage and mash. I was assured by our waiter that the dish would be sufficient however the dish I recieved was far from it. 3 Cumberland Sausages sat on top of mash. That was it. For the price of £14.50. Somewhat insulting. Other than that we had a lovely evening. I have attached a photo of my sausage and mash dish.
We visited for a nice beer after our hike. Staff were friendly and quick service. Timothy Taylor’s on tap was fresh and delicious. The food, contrary to some recent reviews, was tasty, with some surprising, innovative flavours, not too expensive, and all hot and well made. The atmosphere was great, chilled music, seems to be a nice locals pub, and dog friendly. Nice to play a game of pool too! Would definitely recommend, and suggest not believing all of the recent negative reviews. We will certainly visit again.
Like many Pubs they are having problems recruiting staff in this case in their kitchen. I ordered French Onion soup which was cold on arrival and had to be reheated. It tasted more like gravy with onions. Other members of our group were also presented with cold food which had to be reheated. On the positive side it was acknowledged by the member of staff behind the bar and the cost of our drinks were removed from our bill.
