Beautifully decorated boutique pub in :) And the food was stunning! Our room 7 was right above the pub and the music was quite loud, but it’s a minor issue. Super dog friendly as well.
Very disappointed with my stay this weekend. The 'special offer' of £385 was booked a while back - the current price for the same is £320. Out of goodwill, it would have been nice when this was pointed out to perhaps have met us halfway with some drinks - we did get an average bottle of wine compensation. First room was alright but all the water stopped midst shower! Changed room and the same happened and then it was resolved - a very unpleasant experience and again, a complimentary drink in the bar would have gone a long way. This place is expensive for a pub and the room at best would be 3* - room 6 is fine (our friends were in that one). Don't plan a long stay - nowhere to put clothes and the hanging space had just two hangers - had to ask for more - this should have been checked beforehand. Food was excellent and the bar staff were lovely - sadly let down by the attitude of the general manager who needs some upskilling on 'going the extra mile with customer service'. With customer service you only get one opportunity to get things right! - after that it's remedial. A little gesture would have gone a long way. The nice touches are Molton Brown toiletries, but to be honest would have preferred a better attitude from management. Overall I cannot say I had an enjoyable stay :-( The weekend was great because we were with amazing friends - we could have stayed anywhere and still had a good time.
Excellent pub-hotel. Well equipped rooms which feel luxurious. Helpful staff. Breakfast was excellent. Whilst we were there a large and obnoxious group were whinging about breakfast & we thought the staff handled this excellently (despite the abuse). We will definitely be back to enjoy and evening meal!
We booked here for a birthday night away in August after reading reviews. The staff, food, atmosphere and area was fantastic. Everyone was very friendly and the 3 courses we had over dinner was delicious. The village itself is very quiet, nothing else in walking distance but very pretty. However, we had booked a downstairs room as we came with our dog and did not sleep at all. The room (number 3 I believe) was right next to the restaurant with no sound proofing and until last service has finished and the staff have finished tidying up you can hear everything from the tables conversation to the staff putting the cutlery away. So it was silent from around midnight but the room was so so hot, we were awake from around 2-5am and debated driving home as it was just so stuffy. On Check out the next day I mentioned that for future guests it would be good to have a fan in the room- we could not request one when we woke in the night as we were told earlier in the day that the pub is not manned over night, so unless the fire alarm goes off after last service no one is staffing the pub. The woman said that fans are usually provided in the room as they often get feedback about the rooms being very hot at night. It was disappointing that no fan was provided, and no apology despite staffing knowing how hot the room are. I would recommend The cow for a lovely dinner or casual drink but I would not stay at the night again, we were really disappointed with the nights sleep and feedback on check out.
We had a very good lunch for 6. The choice was not extensive but everyone enjoyed their main course. Some had beef, some had pork. We had cauliflower cheese sides and the mains came with a great selection of vegetables. Sweets were equally good. Staff were very professional and attentive. I will go again.
