Unfortunately the management seems to have lost customer focus. The policy regarding the log fire appears to be to save money by not operating the fire for the comfort of loyal customers but to save money by keeping the bar cold and uncomfortable. Very disappointing after several years of regular Friday afternoon drinking. Maybe won’t make a difference but we’ll take our custom elsewhere. It was interesting to read your response to my review. My complaint was nothing to do with customer’s putting logs on the fire as this ceased months ago after a notice was isssued by yourselves. To operate a log burner correctly it needs air to burn efficiently but what has been happening recently is your staff (and certain customers) have been shutting off the air supply resulting in a miserable fire and most certainly not a cosy bar. There is a really cold wind blows through the bar when the passage door is opened as the back door on to the car park is alway wide open. It is a real shame as we have generally enjoyed our Friday afternoons in the Crown. Regards Bryan.
We had my mums birthday there tonight and mostly the food was good except for my fish .I know its not a fish restaurant but I did expect a slightly larger sized piece of fish , especially for £15. .But the fish that was there was ok. The batter was ok , but never again for me. The staff pulled out the birthday cake I had bought in earlier and that was nice of them. Overall a nice place with nice staff and a good atmosphere, but I do hope the waitress mentioned my issue of the fish size to the chef.I should have had the Steak pie which I had last year.
I absolutely love the crown and cross swords, I've never actually stayed. However, I'm a regular visitor for the food. Would recommend booking ahead as it gets quite busy, especially on a Friday evening. Plenty parking, but remember to enter your reg number at the bar to avoid a fine. I'd definitely recommend a visit, and to stay as you're really close to great walks and a lovely river. 😍
I've been to this restaurant with family and friends over the years and it's never disappointed me! All of the staff are friendly and nothing is an issue for them. The setting has a cosy feel to it and plenty of tables and the food is amazing! No matter what you choose you'll be pleased. Would definitely recommend this place for anything from a nice meal out with family or friends to a first, second, third, hundredth date! 5★
First visit into the restaurant as we've previously got a takeaway Sunday dinner and we're super impressed. The dine in experience was so much better, quaint little restaurant upstairs makes it feel like your traditional village pub but the food screams top end. It was that great we've decided to take the whole family next week!
