About us

A low ceilinged, long pub probably dating from the late 18th century in part. As its name suggests, it is situated opposite the parish church. It was formerly a NBC pub and passed into the ownership of Watney Mann, when most of the interior "renovations" were executed. As a result, it is now a single bar pub in an semi-open plan style with several eating and drinking areas tucked away behind pillars and the supporting walls. The pub has had several ups and downs over recent years and has on occasions ended up being closed for a period, as successive leaseholders have suffered the same fate in common with so many others around the country in recent years. The present manager is from a "holding company" who will move on when a new lessee is eventually found. On Sunday, roast dinners are served. Two regular beers are available, although a guest beer may occasionally be available.

John is a great landlord. Lovely village pub, perfect for functions. Big garden. Highly recommended

Stopped off whilst passing through Bugbrooke early on a Saturday evening. The new proprietors were restocking everything, and had recently broken the kettle, so were unable to provide tea or coffee on this occasion. We met some good people with similar interests to ours so spent time chatting before continuing our journey. A pleasant experience and we'll look forward to a return visit, when we're next passing and when the new staff are fully established.

Under new management who really make you (and your dog) feel welcome. Well kept real ale and good pub food - nothing flashy but what they do, they do well. Generous portions and large garden. They really deserve to succeed

Planned visit in party of 16. Basic menu, meals came at different times, not served as ordered, at least 5 were tepid and the last meal was served after all others were finished and party commenced to leave. The staff need to work and train to provide a better service.

Stopped off for a brief drink during a canal trip - very friendly staff, nice location (and interior!), good pint and very reasonably priced. Had a good look at the menu and was very nearly tempted despite having eaten 30 previously. Portions looked generous and the steaks looked great!
